This short course provides a closer exploration of Awaab’s law and what it means for social landlords. We will consider the phased implementation of this new legislation and how internal policies and procedures will need to be streamlined to meet requirements. We will then discuss how this new law might be implemented into the private rented sector.
Content:
Understand how Awaab’s law will amend S11 repairing obligations and the timescales from reporting, investigating and commencing works.
Understand emergency and significant hazards and what will now fall within scope of Awaab’s law.
Know the phases of implementation and explore the hazards which will be contained in the first phase.
Using specific case studies of defects, discuss how repair issues are diagnosed, investigated and remedied.
Understand the new report writing requirements and the logistics of making this work in a large organisation.
Using case studies, discuss emergency cases, how to make safe and when alternative accommodation is required.
Objectives:
Surveyors and housing professionals will understand the impact of this new law on current practice and how organisations need to adapt their responses accordingly.
