The EPC remains influential but imperfect, and major updates are coming that will affect surveyors. Government proposals include revised EPC metrics, possible new energy-related requirements in home surveys, and alignment with the Future Homes Standard. A new Home Energy Model will replace existing methodologies, while emerging standards such as the RICS retrofit method and BS 40104 will introduce more consistent, evidence-based approaches to assessing and advising on retrofit.
Led by Professor Richard Fitton of Salford University – member of the RICS Retrofit Standard committee.
